Shamir Ezra Blumenkranz

Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz - acoustic/electric bass, oud - was born in
1975 in Brooklyn, NY. Shanir has studied at the Manhattan School of
Music, Rimon School of Music in Israel, and holds a B.A. in
Performance from Berklee School of Music in Boston, Mass were he
graduated summa cum laude.

‘Trio Tarana” with Ravish Momin and Jason Kao Hwang will release their
debut on Portugal based Clean Feed Records in August of 2004.
"Satlah" with Daniel Zamir, Kevin Zubek and Shanir on acoustic bass,
released their self titled debut for Tzadik Records in 1999 and
features John Zorn as a special guest. "Exodus", their second cd, was
recorded live at Tonic in New York City. "Satlah's" their third cd
for Tzadik, "Children Of Israel", features John Zorn and is produced
by Bill Laswell.

"Rashanim" with Jon Madof, Mattias Kunzli, and Shanir on electric
bass, released their self titled debut for Tzadik in 2002 and
features mix traslations by Bill Laswell.

Other cds for Tzadik include a compilation of music by Israeli
composer "Sasha Argov" and a compilation of music composed by John
Zorn called "Voices In The Wilderness" for the tenth year anniversary
of his band "Masada".

Most recently, Shanir has recorded a cd for Nottwo Records called
"Chinatown" featuring Daniel Carter, Kevin Zubek and Shanir on
acoustic bass and oud. On Parralactic Records, Shanir played
acoustic bass and oud on a cd called "Sextet 2003" feauring featuring
Anthony Braxton and Sonny Simmons.

Shanir has performed in many clubs and festivals around the world,
including a concert for BBC Radio in London with John Zorn. Shanir
is also a featured performer in the May 2000 issue of Bass Player
Magazine.

Shanir has performed and/or recorded with the Jazz Mandolin Project,
Pharaoh's Daughter, George Garzone, Satoshi Takeshi, Hank Roberts,
Daniel Carter, Sabir Mateen, Roy Campbell Jr., Tony Malaby, Will
Connell, Jim Puglesie, Jamie Saft, Anthony Coleman, Mark Dresser,
Anthony Braxton, Sonny Simmons, Ned Rothenberg, Marty Erlich, Trevor
Dunn, Susie Ibarra, Michiyo Yagi, Kasu Uchihashi, Makigami Koichi,
Cyro Baptista, Marc Ribot, Kenny Wollesen, Joey Baron, Eric
Friedlander, Roberto Rodriguez, Louie Belogenis, Ikue Mori, and John
Zorn.
