Olga Prats (1938-2021) was an absolute reference for music in Portugal starting much before the Portuguese revolution happened in april 1974.
Even so, her interests were much wider as represented on this CD where she covers a span of almost 4 centuries with no stylistic barriers. It’s just Olga, the piano and the music she loved to play. Here, she runs selected works from the Baroque period (Rameau, Handel, Óscar da Silva, Chostakovitch e Bach), the Romantic period (Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Liszt e Wagner), Iberian composers (Padre José António, Federico Mompou, Constança Capdeville and Fernando Lopes-Graça), what she calls “the spirit of memory” (Leoš Janáček, Luciano Berio and Arvo Pärt), “the spirit of the people” (Heitor Villa-Lobos, João Maria Blanc de Castro Abreu e Motta, Astor Piazzolla and Chick Corea), and “the spirit of the future” (Sara Claro and Sérgio Azevedo).
