Recorded live at Rochester’s Bop Shop in New York, this CD is a powerful document featuring four major voices of the creative Jazz Scene.

The Nu Band is a group that works intensively in the New York Jazz scene, playing regularly in clubs like the Tonic and the Knitting Factory, two of the most important venues in the avant-jazz worldwide scene.

The four tunes gathered in this CD, with compositions of Mark Whitecage, Joe Fonda and Roy Campbell, function as conquer motifs in a collective improvisation of the highest level and devastating intensity.

The musicians in this group have bonds between them that go back as far as the 70’s. Mark Whitecage is a prominent saxophone and clarinet player since the 50’s. He played and recorded with musicians like Paul Bley, Dave Douglas, Gunther Hampel, Mario Pavone, Perry Robinson or Marshall Allen. His Power trio with Dominic Duval and Jay Rosen is currently more active than ever.

Roy Campbell is considered by many one of the most important trumpet players in today’s Jazz. He has more than 20 projects under his own name, of witch the Pyramid Trio, with William Parker and Hamid Drake, and Other Dimensions in Music are the most important. Being a student of Lee Morgan in the 70’s, he played early with musicians like Cecil Taylor, David Murray, Billy Bang or Jemeel Moondoc.

Joe Fonda comes from the lineage of the great Charles Mingus. Vigorous, inventive, he acts like a catalyser. Since the 70’s he is a fundamental piece in the history of the new jazz. He played and recorded with names like Anthony Davis, Gerry Hemingway, Wadada Leo Smith or Thomas Chapin, and he is a member of several Anthony Braxton’s groups.
Of all these experiences comes a unique band, with many stories to tell.
